Gourmet Gala Benefits Cooking and Nutrition Classes for Families Living on Low Incomes

The 10th annual Chef’s Night Out will take place on Sunday, October 26th, 2008 at The Golf Club at Newcastle. The event is a one-of-a-kind, five course wine-paired dinner to benefit cooking and nutrition classes for families living on low incomes. All proceeds benefit Operation Frontline, a partnership of the local non-profit Solid Ground and the national anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength.

Top chefs from Seattle area’s best restaurants will donate their time and talents to create an evening of extraordinary cuisine paired with elegant wines to raise money to help end hunger through education in our community.

“This event gives people a chance to have an incredible dining experience while directly helping a program that empowers everyone to make healthier food choices.” said Claire Leamy, Operation Frontline Program Supervisor.

Operation Frontline conducts cooking-based nutrition and financial-planning courses, teaching the foundations of cooking skills, food safety, budgeting and nutrition knowledge that can help families make healthier food choices.

In 2007, over 314 Seattle families participated in Operation Frontline classes. The classes are taught by volunteer chefs and nutritionists and take place over a six week period. Each week centers on a different component of healthy eating and features a recipe that the class prepares together.

The Operation Frontline curricula and teaching methods have been tested though participant surveys and have been proven to make positive changes in participants consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and other healthy eating practices.

“Operation Frontline changed my life to make it healthier, and I am sure it will change the lives of my family as well.” commented one recent participant.

Each ticket to Chef’s Night Out will sponsor two children through a six week series of cooking classes!

Chef’s Night Out is sponsored by Charlie’s Produce. This year’s participating restaurants and their chefs include:
